Lindsey & Winchester – An American Success Story
by Cindy Lindsey Pounders
A little over 50 years ago in Fall 1972, Bob Tiffin started a business in Red Bay, Alabama building motor homes, Tiffin Motor Homes. At this time my dad, J.D. Lindsey worked at Sunshine Homes in Red Bay during the day and he and my mom Jeanette Winchester Lindsey made molding strips for Sunshine Homes at night and my mom also sewed purses to sell. Both of my parents were very hard workers and had a work ethic that is rare today. They were blessed by God to have the ability to see opportunities for success in everyday situations. Both were raised in poor but proud families. Being born at the end of the Great Depression most families around here fit that description.
My dad was eating breakfast one Saturday morning at Hargett’s Café (located in the back of what was The Tiffin General Store) Daddy overheard Mr. Bob Tiffin talking about the difficulty of getting curtains for the motor homes. My Dad (who only had an eighth-grade education) turned around and told Bob Tiffin that he believed he and my mom could make those for him. They shook hands and over 50 years later we are still partnered in business with Tiffin Motor Homes. As the business grew to include bedspreads, pillows, shades, and valances, my parents invited my mom’s brother and sister-in-law to join the business, Paul and Paulette Winchester. The factory was originally run in the carport of our small house which had been closed in. My brother, my cousins, and I grew up in the factory. Later the current factory was built behind the small house and has been added onto as needed. In 1976, they decided to hire their first helper, Mrs. Betty Ray, and she was with us 47 years until she retired.
We have been blessed to work with the Tiffin family for over 50 years and it is a pleasure to continue to build a quality product for them and with them today. We look forward to many more years building quality luxury interior items for Tiffin Motor Homes.
The future of Lindsey and Winchester is bright, and we are excited to see what God has in store for all of us.

I handle the financial and customer service side of the business We have the third generation of leadership already working in the family business, as Gary’s son, Chase is our assistant plant manager, and my son, Zack Pounders is my assistant. We are blessed with some of the best people you will ever meet to work alongside every day. It is truly a blessing to go to work every day with these quality people who have become a family. Who care about the quality of work they put out but care even more about each other.
